Our client is one of the largest and most successful financial institutions in the world. With strong revenue streams across retail, commercial and capital markets, they have consistently out performed many of their competitors.
They are currently looking to recruit two Associate Directors to manage public policy issues of strategic importance and to support initiatives to build their corporate reputation with public policy stakeholders.
Your role will involve working closely with business colleagues in Group Centre and Retail and Business Banking to understand issues of strategic importance to the business and provide public policy advice to ensure that the business achieves its objectives. You will need to understand the external public policy environment (UK, EU and internationally) to proactively identify issues of importance to their reputation or its businesses. Alert business units accordingly advising of potential courses of action to mitigate risks.
You will work with business and product leads to effectively manage public policy issues emanating from the business allocated to your responsibility. This will involve understanding external public policy issues that impact those businesses, developing influencing strategies, devising policy positions and preparing responses to consultations.
Working with the Director of Public Affairs for UK, EU and Asia, you will be responsible for maintaining contacts and good working relationships with key external stakeholders. This will involve proactively working to build the business’s reputation with external political and opinion leading stakeholders and helping to promote a better internal understanding of reputation risk.
The ideal candidates will have proven and exceptional policy skills; able to grasp and understand the significance and potential impact of a wide range of public policy issues, identify risks and opportunities for the business and develop responses to policy issues drawing on relevant expertise.
You will need a background in public affairs, public policy or government relations, preferably in the financial services sector; this could include other financial institutions, relevant regulators, such as HMT or FSA, or relevant trade associations.
You will have sound political judgement, high level influencing and lobbying skills and the ability to work on range of issues and prioritise. You will also be a team player, with strong relationship building and interpersonal skills; able to build trust at all levels across the business, working with a range of different internal ‘clients’.
