Selection Team

We are a team of consultants, researchers, external advisors and non-executive directors. Languages covered across the company are English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch.

Our management team has a combined recruitment industry experience of over 100 years. Many of the team started out in recruitment at some of the UK's leading executive search firms. Others arrived from careers in HR for multinational corporations, in-house communications positions and senior/executive management roles in listed businesses.

We have an enviable track record, conducting assignments for global brands, international banks, professional and trade bodies, consultancies and charities.

This experience enables us not only to advise our clients on recruitment challenges, but also to appreciate the business-critical issues faced by your senior management team.

Gavin Ellwood

Gavin is a main Board director of E&A and works in the London Selection practice. He has more than 15 years' search and selection experience and has recruited senior and specialist communications and public affairs professionals for a diverse range of organisations and global brands. He is a Freeman of The Guild of PR Practitioners, and Executive Committee member of the CIPR Public Affairs Group. Gavin has a degree in Philosophy & Psychology.

Catherine Purvis

Catherine is a main Board director of E&A and leads the Selection practice in London. She has over ten years' recruitment and political experience. She has seven years' communications and public affairs recruitment experience with E&A and has recruited for a variety of organisations at the mid-market level. Before joining E&A, Catherine spent three years' within the House of Commons working for two MPs, including a serving Cabinet Minister, and she has worked through two general Elections. She started her career working for IBM UK for five years, after her degree and Masters from the University of Warwick.

Chloe Prescott

Chloe leads the internal communications practice. Chloe has a wealth of experience within this discipline having spent six years at the Royal Bank of Scotland Group (RBS) where she worked on various strategic internal communications and employee engagement programmes and initiatives. She has also completed the Internal Communication Management Diploma, run jointly by Kingston Business School, Capita Learning and Development and Communicators in Business.

More recently at VMA Group, Chloe has had a successful two years in recruitment, completing assignments for a wide range of clients.

Before joining E&A she worked for JFL Search and Selection where she recruited for the PR and corporate communications market. Nicola Bates

Nicola is a senior consultant in the London Selection practice. She has a background in public affairs with eight years' experience across a range of businesses, charities and trade associations. She started her career in communications within the construction and infrastructure sector before joining the consultancy Mandate Communications (now MHP Communications). Nicola stood as a candidate in the 2010 General Election coming a respectable second against Nick Clegg in Sheffield Hallam. Nicola is a Politics graduate from the University of York and has a Diploma in Public Relations from London School of Public Relations. Nicola has also volunteered for the past five Christmases with the homeless charity Crisis.

Jules Shelley

Jules leads the E&A Interim practice. She has over six years' recruitment experience in PR and corporate communications. Jules joined E&A from VMA Group where she handled Freelance and Interim communications assignments within agency and in-house teams. Having completed interim assignments for leading UK and international consumer brands and corporates, she has an in-depth knowledge of the interim market. Jules is a Sociology graduate from Exeter University.

Tom Ewen

Tom is a Senior Consultant with the London Selection Practice. He has eight years’ experience of recruitment, four of which he has spent with E&A. He recruits communications staff to an array of organisations and sectors. Prior to this he established the successful E&A interim team and previously worked as a senior manager for Venn Group, one of the UK’s fastest growing recruitment companies. Tom graduated as an actor. He performed in successful productions with the RSC and on stage at the Globe Theatre prior to finding his more stable home in recruitment.
