The National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) is the most influential body in workplace pensions. Representing 800 pension fund members and over 1,200 schemes, we lobby Government and Regulators to create a better environment for workplace pensions. We are a well-connected and influential organisation, with real influence in Westminster, Whitehall, and Brussels. We are proactive in shaping industry developments and government policy to secure the future of workplace pensions.

Your role will be to support the Director of Policy in leading the NAPF’s policy and advocacy work, so as to position the NAPF as the leading voice of workplace pensions. This will involve working collaboratively with members, to create a viable and flourishing environment for all workplace pensions. And representing NAPF members’ views effectively to policymakers and regulators in the UK, Europe and internationally.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, managing, developing and inspiring a high-performing policy and advocacy team
  • Leading for the policy team on member relations (working closely with the Head of Membership), key contacts, and strategic stakeholder relationships.
  • Shaping the direction of government and regulatory policy (UK and EU) for the benefit of NAPF members by engaging with ministers, regulators and officials. Delivering effective, evidence-based, responses to external consultation exercises which influence the outcome of pensions policy so as to deliver a viable, cost-effective and sustainable framework for workplace pensions.
  • Working closely with, and providing a high quality service to, the NAPF’s two policy-making Councils.
  • Developing strong and effective working relationships with NAPF members, ensuring there is a high level of engagement and participation in NAPF policymaking, that member expertise is effectively leveraged, and that members are well sighted on NAPF policy positions.
  • Supporting the Director of Policy in managing the development of programme content for NAPF conferences and seminars.
  • Playing a full role in contributing to developing, implementing and promulgating original streams of work which ensure the NAPF is seen as a source of good, innovative, forward-looking ideas and information which i) contribute to the long-term sustainability of UK workplace pensions and ii) raise the standards of workplace pension provision.

Key skills and personal attributes

  • Proven experience as a public policy professional in a complex organisation, with a pensions, investment or financial services background.
  • Proven influencing skills and experience of managing resources, budgets and people.
  • Articulate and confident, with good presentation and communication skills, excellent writing skills and a creative flair.
  • Ability to communicate complex issues clearly to a variety of audiences.
  • Good time and project management skills, with the ability to juggle priorities.
  • Some experience in dealing with the media and public speaking preferable.
